LG is planning the production of solar panels in the coming years significantly screwing up. The group adds up to 2020 six production lines to the existing eight lines. This company wants to be prepared for the expected increase in demand from mainstream consumers.

LG puts 527 billion Korean won, converted 402 million in its existing factory for solar panels in South Korea Gumi. This investment includes the construction of six new production lines and an increase in the annual capacity of 1GW to 1,8GW by 2018 and to 3GW by 2020. LG calculates it 3GW is equivalent to the annual consumption of one million households.

LG began in 1995 with the production of solar panels. “We believe that mainstream consumers now more than ready to consider solar energy,” said Lee Sang-bong, bestuursvoorziiter and head of the Energy Business Centre of LG.

LG introduced last year its new NeON two solar panels with a peak power of 320W. Apart from achieving a higher peak power than previous panels, they should also last longer. The manufacturer uses circular wiring for light to spread more effectively, thereby increasing the absorption and electrical loss decreases.
