LG will probably release OLED TVs with 8k

resolution from June 2019
A director of LG Display, Sang-Beom Han, announced at a conference in South Korean Seoul that his company is trying to release the first 8k oled televisions for consumers from June next year.

The CEO of LG Display also said that the necessary mass production of 8k OLED panels will start in May 2019, writes MT Korea, among others . This means that the company gives a certain priority to the production of OLED panels, since the production for LCDs with a resolution of 7680×4320 pixels will start somewhat later, sometime in the second half of next year.

Sang-Beom Han also noted that there is still a problem in the form of a lack of native content for 8k televisions and the same applies in his view to 4k material. According to him, it will take some time before that problem is solved. He thinks that the lack of 8k content can be solved for a certain time by scaling up the footage to 8k resolution.

LG showed during the last IFA fair in September an 8k oled screen with a diagonal of 88 inches and before that this screen was already shown at the CES in Las Vegas. According to LG, this is the first 8k oled television in the world.

Competitor Samsung is launching 8k LCD televisions around this time, such as the Q900R TVs, which will be the new top models in the Qled line. From this Samsung TV models come with image diagonals of 65 “, 75” and 85 “, which cost 4999 euros, 6999 euros and 14.999 euros.
