Manufacturer LG has created a fingerprint scanning module that can be placed behind the front glass of a smartphone. It is the first time that the South Korean manufacturer announces a fingerprint scanner.

For LG sensor is required a recess of 0.3 mm under the glass. Because the scanner is located under the screen, it is automatically protected against dust and water, claiming LG. The manufacturer claims that the scanner in 0.002 percent of the cases, the fingerprint of someone else takes for that of the user, a margin of error that would be comparable to that of current scanners.

The first is that LG announces a fingerprint scanner. The South Korean company says it is in talks with several manufacturers. Last year, the manufacturer put a scanner in three new aircraft. The Nexus has a 5X FPC1025 of the Swedish Fingerprint Cards, the V10 and G5 have a FPC1035 of the same scanner maker.

LG is not the first one with a scanner, which can at the front of a smartphone under the glass plate. Qualcomm presented last year Sense ID, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Fingerprint Cards came with the FPC1200 series late last year, which also can under the glass. There is no scanner yet presented which itself operates under the screen. For this, a scanner would have to be completely transparent.
