Light alcoholic beverages during pregnancy did not affect the development of the child

Pregnant

Published on April 17 the results of research scientists from University College London suggests that the low consumption of alcoholic drinks for women during pregnancy does not affect the child’s development.

To be precise, we are talking about the use of, for example, one or two glasses of wine a week. Scientists who have made such a statement, explained that they could not find evidence in favor of the light alcoholic beverages in any way adversely affect fetal development and the possibility of different cognitive dysfunction after birth and during the growing child.

This conclusion scientists came after traced the social and emotional behavior of 10,534 children under the age of 7 years. The result of this experiment, the children were asked to perform some test items for mathematics, reading and skill of spatial perception.

It was found that 12.7 percent of children taking in the experiment were born to mothers who had never in his life had not consumed alcohol. 57.1 percent of mothers drank often, but not during pregnancy, 23.1 percent of mothers said they had used only the light alcoholic beverages , and 7.2 percent of women said that they had used even more than the recommended rate during pregnancy.

After comparing the test data from children whose mothers never drank alcohol, and those whose mothers had used light alcoholic beverages, the scientists came to the conclusion that between them there are no significant differences.

“We found no negative effects and abnormalities in 7-year-olds whose mothers drank during pregnancy light alcoholic drinks,” – says Professor Yvonne Kelly, based on the results of research.

“However, the question still remains unclear about the level of alcohol consumption, which could be called safe for future moms. Therefore, the best solution in this case is complete abstinence from alcohol during pregnancy “, – concludes Kelly.
