Many ministers and state secretaries use privémailaccount for communication with officials or ministers. Only some of the ministers do not, says Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs.

Henk Kamp According to Kamp, all ministers, which Kamp probably referring to members of the Cabinet, let Prime Minister Mark Rutte know if and how much they use a personal account for business mail.

It is unknown how many of the ministers just use a private-account, but Kamp said in response to questions from D66 MP Kees Verhoeven that only “some” ministers said not to use a personal account. In addition, they take according to Camp into account how sensitive the information is. “This is not a state secret classified information.”

Verhoeven asked the question earlier this year when out came became the camp in 2014 through phishing. The attack was claimed the prosecution not aimed at Kamp and Minister reiterates in the reply that it was an indiscriminate phishing attempt, where he has been kicked in. The minister has changed his password after discovering the phishing attack. Only he and his wife have the password, he says. The public ADR is investigating the phishing case to find out whether sensitive government ended up with a third party.

According to Kamp, the use of a private-account business mail for senior officials and Ministers not prohibited. The rules state the minister that they must separately evaluate for any mail or can be sent. When it comes to information that is classified as confidential or state secret, may not forward. Forwarding automatically all mail is not allowed. Camp claims that he never sent confidential information to his Gmail account. The minister said earlier that he continues to use Gmail for business communications, but is he back on.
