Nintendo has in the past three months, 510,000 Wii’s sold, an increase of 219 percent compared to last year and an increase from the 310,000 Wii consoles that went into the first quarter of 2013 over the counter. The growth is partly explained by the release of Mario Kart 8: Nintendo sold that title since its release in late May 2.82 million times. This is evident from the quarterly figures of the company. That means that 80 percent of buyers of Mario Kart 8 already had a Wii.

Nintendo also sold 820,000 copies of its 3DS handheld. The Group’s turnover decreased by 8.4 percent in one year to 74.7 billion yen, converted 545 million. The loss of the Japanese company came in at 9.92 billion yen, or 72 million. Nintendo still expects 3.6 million Wii U’s to sell in its current fiscal year, which ends in late March 2015. Include Super Smash Bros. and Skylanders-like Amiibo dolls to take care of.
