Marktplaats implements rating system for users

at the end of next month
Marktplaats is testing a system that allows buyers and sellers to assess each other. In the user profile, a display with stars indicates how they are rated on average. End experiences will be available in all product groups at the end of next month.

According to the spokesperson for Marktplaats, the test started a few weeks ago with two product groups, ‘Huis en Inrichting’ and ‘Muziek en Instrumenten’. According to him, the reactions are positive: ” If this second part of the test goes well, we expect to make these experiences available in all product groups at the end of next month.”

The aim of the star system is to make trading on the platform more reliable. Users will be given the opportunity to indicate their experiences with the other party if the purchase has been successfully completed. By means of a rating system in Messages, they can assess the course of the trade by valuing them with one to five stars.

In addition, they can select positive points and indicate possible points for improvement. The assessment is not mandatory, but according to Marktplaats, it is desirable ‘so that the behavior of the users becomes clear to others’. Changing the experiences afterwards is not possible.

The average number of stars of the assessments is in fact the profile of the users. Buyers and sellers only get to see each other’s experience when the other party has shared them and the experience of both parties is published simultaneously. If only one party shares their experience, it will automatically be visible after 14 days with the profile on the site and the apps.
