In its own words, the MediaMarkt will focus less on products and more on the customer. Among other things, the company invests in training for its staff to improve knowledge and customer-friendliness.

The strategy to focus more on services, apart from products, is according to the company ‘the biggest change for the MediaMarkt to date’. As a practical example, the MediaMarkt mentions not only delivering a laptop, but also transferring the data from the old model of the customer. In addition, the retail chain calls the installation of TVs at the customer and the placing of the washing machine at the place where it should be placed.

Personal advice and repairs in the store also play a prominent role, according to the company. For service engineers, there is a new training center, where they learn in customer service and learn how to install products in different home conditions. The MediaMarkt has 4500 employees in 49 stores. The company claims to invest in training and training programs, leadership processes, and knowledge and expertise from outside to improve the service provided by the employees involved.

The MediaMarkt is facing increasing competition from Bol.com and Coolblue. Coolblue is opening more and more physical stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, including XXL branches with a large floor area and an extensive range.
