MediaTek Introduces 64-bit soc with LTE for midrange phones mart




The Chinese manufacturer MediaTek MT6732 has announced its soc-mart for midrange phones. The chip is built around four Cortex-A53 cores with support for 64bit processing. The SOC will be available in the third quarter.

MediaTek logo The MT6732 is a quad-core based on ARM’s Cortex A53 with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. Thanks Cortex A53 processors achieve the same performance as current as ARM socs with Cortex A9 cores with a quarter of the power. The GPU of the chip, the Mali T670 that supports Open GL ES include 3.0 and Open CL 1.2. Further, the soc hardware acceleration decoding of HD video using the h.265 codec. Finally, MediaTek has built in support for LTE.

The manufacturer sends the first MT6732 chips in the third quarter to manufacturers. The first smartphones with the chips appear late this year. MediaTek focuses its first 64-bit chips in the midrange market, like Qualcomm does with its quad-core Snapdragon 410, which is also based on Cortex A53 and which appear in smartphones in the second half of 2014.
