Merkel urges Facebook to do more to combat racism and Publications




He urged the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel Facebook to make more effort to combat racism and hate comments and publications, in remarks to be published on Friday, a local newspaper.

With the expected influx of Germany record number of refugees this year, politicians and celebrities show their concern over the rise in hostile statements of foreigners in Germany on Facebook and other social networking platforms because of the refugee crisis.

Merkel said the newspaper Raenich Post, “When people stir strife on social networks using real names, then the responsibility does not fall on the state alone, with Facebook as a company to do something to combat this.”

She added that the Facebook is already code necessary to act, but there was a lack of oversight and enforcement of the law, stressing that “the laws must be implemented.”

It publishes Raenich Post newspaper in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous German States, which pledged to accept about a fifth of all refugees coming into the country.

The Minister of Justice Heiko Facebook Mas accused last month of not doing enough to address the racism and hatred posts.

For its part, a spokeswoman for Facebook said that the company took concerns diamond seriously, then the company have expressed an interest to meet with the Minister of Justice, who requested the convening of an interview in the German capital Berlin on September 14 / September.
