Microsoft: Ballmer will leave his post in early 2014
Microsoft continues to search for a suitable candidate for a future CEO. And although almost all were waiting to hear an official statement from the company at the end of this year, the Redmond giant announced only recently that will name the person who will replace Steve Ballmer only at the beginning of next year.
John W. Thompson, a member of the board of directors of Microsoft and one of the members of the selection committee of the new CEO announced that it currently has no less than 100 possible candidates, so the process of choosing a new leader may take a little longer than planned before.
Thompson nevertheless said he was very pleased with the progress achieved in the committee searching for a new CEO, but, unfortunately, not added any other details in this regard.
“As a member of the board of directors and committee member, I am very pleased with our progress achieved. Council very carefully refers to the selection of a suitable candidate, because it is expected of us shareholders, partners, employees and customers. After determining the most important criteria, we began an extensive and in-depth search of suitable candidates among both internal staff and the number of representatives of other industry, with the right skills for us “- shared Thompson.
“As a result we have identified more than 100 possible candidates, held talks with dozens of them and then chose the 20 most suitable persons, impressed us the most. As expected, the range of the search has narrowed, and we were able to make our efforts for a deeper and more careful selection, including at board level. Our progress very clearly, and we expect to complete the selection of a single candidate at the beginning of 2014. ”
People close to the case believe that Ford CEO Alan Mullan and Satya Nadella, president of Microsoft’s Server & Tools Business is the front-runner in the list for the role of CEO of the new Microsoft .
Tony Bates (managing vice president of Microsoft), Kevin Turner (COO of Microsoft), as well as Stephen Elop also considered among the most suitable candidates. Primarily because they are all somehow familiar with the business and the Redmond company will be able to continue the implementation of its strategy.
