Microsoft begins preview program for Skype Translator

Microsoft on Monday with a preview program started Translator for Skype, a tool for real-time translation of video calls. Earlier this year the company already showed a demonstration involving, English was translated directly into German and vice versa.

Anyone can register for the free preview program, let Microsoft know. A limited number of testers being, can participate. Subjects must have at least one computer or tablet equipped with Windows 8.1. They can also just try a few languages, including in any case English and German.

Microsoft announced Skype Translator in May this year. At left the US company in a demonstration already see how two people spoke to each other in German and English. The software translated the ‘heard’ words into another language to subsequently speak again.

Skype Translator is Microsoft’s attempt to realtime translation by let it break. For years, companies try to achieve success with similar systems. Cisco did instance all tests during a videoconference and Google was working on a feature phone to translate in real time.
