Microsoft introduces 10 “tablet Surface Go update




Microsoft has added a new product to its Surface range in the form of a 10 “tablet called Surface Go, which can now be ordered in the Benelux, later in the year also a 4g variant.

In its announcement and in a corresponding blog post , Microsoft writes that the touch-sensitive screen of the Surface Go has a 3: 2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1800×1200 pixels. The whole device measures 245x175x8.3mm and weighs a little more than half a kilo. The tablet runs on a Intel Pentium 4415Y dual-core processor with a basic clock frequency of 1.6GHz, a tdp of 6W and associated Intel HD Graphics 615. There are several memory configurations available, with 4 or 8GB lpddr3 ram and ssd capacities of 128 and 256GB. There is also a 64GB version, but it uses emmc. The storage is expandable via a micro SD card slot.

According to Microsoft, the battery has to last for nine hours, with the company talking about video playback. Charging from zero to one hundred percent would take two hours. In addition, the device uses a Surface Connect charger that is about half the size of the regular Surface charger. The Surface Go is equipped with WiFi, although Microsoft says that later this year a variant will be available with a SIM card slot and a Qualcomm X16 modem, which the company also used in the lte version of its Surface Pro.

At the back of the tablet is an eightmegapixel camera, while at the front a five-pixel model and an infrared camera is present, with which logging in via Windows Hello is possible. There is also support for nfc. Loading is also possible via a USB port and a 3.5 mm jack is available. The Surface Go is also equipped with a kickstand, with which a maximum angle of 165 degrees can be achieved. The tablet can be used with a removable keyboard, a Surface Pen and a Mobile Mouse.

The Wi-Fi variant of the Surface Go can be ordered in advance, even in the Netherlands and Belgium. According to Microsoft, the starting price amounts to 399 dollars.

Update, 11:38: Microsoft reports that the starting price of the Surface Go is 449 euros and that this standard comes with Windows 10 in S-mode. For business users there is also Windows 10 Pro, according to Microsoft. The device is available in the Netherlands from 28 August.
