Microsoft is providing first Windows 10 build based on 20H1 version to testers

Microsoft provided the first build of the 20H1 development branch of Windows 10 to test users who opted for Skip Ahead. That version will be released next year but Microsoft now wants to start testing.

Microsoft does not provide details about the functionality of Windows 10 20H1 that is in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18836 or what features that version will have. “Some things we are working on for 20H1 need a long lead time”, is all that the company wants to get rid of.

Compared with the previous build, there are mainly fixes, based on the release notes. For example, problems have been solved with not being able to wake up from deep sleep, not being able to open Cortana in tablet mode and not showing open apps on the taskbar.

Brandon LeBlanc tells ZDNet that the 20H1 and 19H1 builds are still not very different for the time being, but that more behind the scenes changes will become visible in the course of time. Later in the spring, Microsoft brings 19H2 builds to Insiders testers, or the version of the OS that should appear in the second half of this year. That will happen when the 19H1 build is almost finished. 19H1 is the next feature version of Windows 10, which may appear as version 1903 in April.
