Microsoft is working on keyboard cover with e-ink touch screen for tablets




Microsoft has shown the Keyboard Cover, an attachable keyboard for tablet with a built-in touch screen electronic ink. On that screen, for example, controls for stand applications such as toolbars of Photoshop.

It is a research project and not directly to a cover that opens, according to the post of Microsoft Applied Sciences. The screen of electronic ink has a resolution of 1280×305 pixels. Microsoft has opted for electronic ink, because it uses little energy.

At the secondary display, several things can be subsequently not need to be displayed on the screen, such as control software, quick start beams and tiles from the Start menu. Moreover, it is a touch screen and can thus serve as a touchpad with gestures for zooming.

The Keyboard Cover further has a regular keyboard in order to allow typing. It is unknown what Microsoft wants with this project. The Dutchman Roel Vertegaal involved in the project, according to the credits of the video.
