microsoft rebranding

At the recent Design Day 2013 event in Norway general manager of the design studio Windows Phone Albert Sound and Creative Director Todd Simmons of Wolff Olins Agency discussed the topic of rebranding Microsoft . After the change in the last year of logos Windows, Office and Microsoft company has decided to take on other products, including search engine Bing, Skype messenger , corporate social network Yammer and game console Xbox.

In the course of the event was shown the video and a rough draft of the logo search engine Bing, which is visually similar to a paper airplane or a boomerang.

On turn Bing, Skype, Yammer, and Xbox. All of them are in the works – says Simmons.

Submitted logos fit into the new design concept Microsoft. The company is trying to make all the logos look like, but it wants each of them associated with its own brand. According to Simmons, whose company is working with Microsoft for a long time, the inspiration for the new brand image is drawn from the design of Nike.

A key part of creating a new image of Microsoft was to change the brand Windows. Without it, we would not be able to move on, says Simmons, noting that the whole thing was and is very risky for Microsoft. Change the visual appearance of products, which is used by over a billion people, is not so simple. Innovation is always associated with risk. Do you want to be innovative – risk.

No less risk of Google, which is launching a completely new product .
