Find a Question:
Microsoft ‘s” the evolution of automatic control systems in homes
Automatic control systems provide in home security and comfort and integration between different devices to provide energy
Often speaking science fiction future houses that can be controlled remotely, and respond where appliances with the wishes of the population and changes in the atmosphere or home machine with the muezzin was closing the door, or HVAC works with an individual entry to the room, or gardening in the absence of family members, etc.
Over the years, check out some of these predictions, some homes are used for surveillance cameras and sensors, such as temperature control and ventilation that can follow and control of recordings over the Internet, these systems can also send alerts to users via custom applications for phones or e-mail, but until now mostly used individually without the presence of an integrated control system.
And using tools and automatic control systems in houses several targets, including security and comfort and integration between different devices to provide energy and may help in the future, care for the elderly and the sick, as useful the concept of automation in buildings management, medical, commercial enterprises, and the provision of time, effort and energy.
As part of research to develop this area Microsoft revealed last week about a new platform named “lab stuff” or “Lab” of Things. The name is related to the concept of “Internet of things”, which refers to link many of the elements and devices. The new platform allows researchers to collect data on domestic machinery control systems.
The platform is based on the “home” or or “HomeOS” launched by the company in 2010. And acts as an operating system for automatic control in homes to connect household appliances such as computers and smart phones, printers, televisions and lighting equipment, operating as extensions can be controlled via a single computer called “home” or “HP”.
Microsoft provided a prototype “home or noncommercially” to encourage researchers to study and develop control systems for household appliances. And experienced researchers from the company’s system of “home,” a number of houses, and other non-reliable, and have been used in many research control devices through gestures and develop applications for smartphones for home automation.
Platform Lab provides stuff “, revealed by Microsoft during the fourteenth Conference for research in Washington, better ways to collect data that can be accessed via the Windows azure services cloud and analysis.” It also allows developers to build applications that can run in homes. The company provided the beta version of the platform for download through its website.
During the Conference, explained argmand Samuel, a researcher at Microsoft, some of the benefits of the new platform, and the use will contribute to overcoming several obstacles preventing the automatic control devices in homes, will pay researchers to think of new uses and applications.
He said previous attempts to build systems for automatic control of the houses was on a small scale, and failed to hold for long periods because of a mismatch between job seekers and volunteers who accept the experience of these devices in their homes.
Some studies forecast that the domestic automatic control system uses different beyond the House to appropriate means for energy conservation, and management of care homes and medical institutions, and operation of buildings.
Kamen talked Whitehouse, a researcher at the University of Virginia, about his experience in studying the use of electricity and water by automatic control, which was adopted on the installation of sensors in several houses, including electricity and water consumption monitoring in order to track the habits of population and energy use pattern, which helps in finding appropriate ways to fit with the system of life savings.
Said Dean Kingsley, of University College London, to the importance of extending the work platform “lab stuff” to include the management and operation of buildings such as medical facilities and care centres and sports clubs.
The following video explains the platform “lab stuff”:
