Microsoft: Steve Ballmer retires
Microsoft has just issued a statement that its chief executive Steve Ballmer will leave his post in the next 12 months. Ballmer retires immediately after the company completes selection of the best candidate to replace him.
Microsoft’s official website published an open letter to Steve Ballmer, the company’s employees, in which he explained his decision and Microsoft’s strategy for the future. Here is an excerpt from the report:
“We have begun to implement a new strategy for the company to change its internal organization . And now we have a great team of senior managing staff. Initially I thought that the best time for my retirement will mean that the process of transformation of a software company, the company is engaged in the provision of services and production devices. We need a new CEO who could confidently lead the company to this new chosen field. ”
Ballmer will choose a successor to the specially assembled committee, headed by John Thompson and that includes Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
To work on the selection of a suitable candidate for a new CEO has been invited international recruitment company Heidrick & Struggles. It will address both internal and external search.
Himself Bill Gates has supported care Steve Ballmer as chief executive of Microsoft, adding that “fortunately for us, Steve will remain in office until such time as will not elect a new CEO».
