Microsoft takes over video platform for classes




Microsoft has taken over the company Flipgrid. Flipgrid is developing a service for the educational market, with which students and pupils can publish videos about subjects at class level.

Microsoft has immediately integrated Flipgrid into Microsoft Teams in Office 365 for Education. In addition, Microsoft makes Flipgrid for schools free; educational institutions that have already created a paid account can receive a refund .

The educational service remains available under its own name and the existing team is retained. Moreover, the company emphasizes that the service continues to work on Chromebooks, iPads, iPhones and Android devices, just like on Windows PCs.

Flipgrid is a social media service with which teachers can create grids, these are a kind of networks of pupils and students, who can respond to topics that the teacher presents, including with short videos.

The acquisition is part of Microsoft’s strategy to focus on the educational market. The company offers, among other things, the free Office 365 Education and Minecraft: Education Edition .
