Developers of Microsoft, apparently realizing that their branded video call service is going through far from the best of times, presented a large-scale update of the Skype mobile client. When designing the update, the creators paid special attention to the possibilities of messaging between users, borrowing some of the developments from competitors.

Obviously, by taking such a step, Microsoft intends to occupy a niche of messengers in order to compete with rivals such as iMessage, Telegram and WhatsApp. To do this, developers had to completely redesign the application interface, which now includes such sections as “Search”, “Chat” and “Shooting”, and is called “Skype of the next generation”.

“Search” is a complex tool that allows you to search both for the list of saved contacts, and for media investments and held conversations. “Chat”, in turn, is now the main way of communication and contains already begun dialogs. The third section – “Shooting” – allows you to share short video notes that can be “diluted” with a cheerful signature or stickers.

In addition, now in Skype there is an analogue of “Stories” called Highlights. The principle of the innovation completely repeats the functionality of services like Snapchat and Instagram . Capture a short video or a series of pictures and share them with your friends. The latter, in turn, will be able to evaluate your creation, expressing your opinion with a comment, a smiley or a sticker.

Microsoft has already begun to distribute an update for Skype among users of devices on Android. Later, the update will be available to owners of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Reliable information about the release dates of the desktop version is not yet available.
