article_microsoft Microsoft is currently issuing a warning: Basically, this is about an old mesh: supposed employees of the Microsoft support telephone, via e-mail or even over pop-ups on infected websites to unsuspecting users, in order to extract them user data. In fact, the supposed employees of Microsoft are of course not, but they are fraudsters. Concern over the extent of fraud, Microsoft has conducted a study in 12 countries over the last 12 months. Two-thirds of the respondents said they were faced with the so-called “Tech Support Scam” within the last year.

In Germany, more than half of respondents are affected. Unusual: Particularly the age group of the 18-34-year-olds at least partly fell on the mesh – that is exactly the group, which is rather than Internet experienced. 50% of the people who were contacted by a fraudulent telephone call and who belonged to the aforementioned age group did in fact carry out further actions. Real financial losses in Germany were fortunately, but only 3% of those who were tried. Internationally it was every tenth.

The mesh is quite transparent: A supposed Microsoft employee claims the user’s computer is infected with viruses. A really great software from Microsoft should solve the problem. Anyone installing this software, of course, scrambles a Trojan on his computer, which has nothing to do with Microsoft. Microsoft warns that you do not do any unsolicited calls and provide help on request almost exclusively via e-mail. There is also no “Microsoft lottery”, which would also like to be asserted by the fraudsters. In addition, Microsoft will never ask for credit card information to verify the authenticity of products.

If you are contacted by fraudsters who are working as Microsoft employees, you should hang up as quickly as possible on the phone and not answer e-mails. Under no circumstances should you install suggested software. If you already have such a software installed, you should disconnect your PC from the internet and take care of the removal via virus scanner and anti-malware software. In such a case, of course, the change of all passwords is recommended. According to Microsoft, they are already working with the police officers to find the backstreaks of the frauds. Those affected should also report the fraud. Even when Microsoft itself can the frauds via this form report.

In the end, the common sense of the human being should not be to fall upon such a crooked tour. For IT laymen, however, it can still happen that good-faith and inexperienced users enter the mesh. Let’s hope that you might catch the wire-pullers.
