Microsoft will support Windows 10 Mobile in December

Microsoft reports via a notification on a support page that the days of the operating system Windows 10 Mobile are counted. The support will be terminated later this year from 10 December. From this moment on there is no more updates.

Microsoft says on the support page that Windows 10 Mobile users will no longer be eligible for new security updates, hotfixes or free support from 10 December. The company says that third parties or paid support programs may continue to offer support after December 10, but Microsoft will no longer release public updates or patches.

The Redmond company advises users of the Windows operating system to choose an Android or iOS device. Microsoft says its own mission statement, which states that the company wants to help every person or organization on the planet to achieve more, forces them to support their own mobile apps on other platforms and devices.

Devices where Windows 10 Mobile is on still work after 10 December. Automatically or manually created backups of settings and some apps remain possible until March 10, 2020. Services such as uploaded photos and restoring a device from another device may continue to work until December 10, 2020, according to Microsoft.

It is not entirely unexpected that Microsoft also ends the support for Windows 10 Mobile. In 2017 , the company also stopped supporting Windows Phone 8.1 . The latest version of Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709, dates back to October 2017. Only devices with this version retain support until 10 December.
