Microsoft Windows may stop version numbers

Windows 10 may be the latest version of Windows with a version number. Microsoft would then allow the system components permanently with updates without full release new versions of Windows.

Windows 8 A developer evangelist from Microsoft called Windows 10 on its Ignite conference “the latest version of Windows,” commented on The Verge. When asked Microsoft conceded to the tech site that the remarks “made by Ignite Windows 10 reflect how Windows will be charged as a service.” It updates are released regularly.

Microsoft confirms thus more or less that no new version of Windows with its own version number will be released, but that the company will update Windows and gradually provide new functionality. Thereby version numbers in the background does remain, but they are not communicated to the outside world. The policy may mean the end of ‘Patch Tuesday’ for Windows: the monthly day when Microsoft rolls out security updates.

Microsoft has previously indicated that Windows more as a service, “Windows-as-a-service, will be offered, which will be gradually updated the operating system, either through the Windows Store. How it should be funded is unclear. The company has previously denied to come with a subscription model.
