Million Belgians anonymous SIM card should soon identify
Belgians with an anonymous SIM card must identify themselves in the foreseeable future to ensure that providers block their SIM card. The Belgian Chamber agrees with a proposal to ban the anonymous SIM card.
It involves a total of a million Belgians who currently have an anonymous SIM card with prepaid credit. The Belgian newspaper HLN reports that the Court’s new rule adopted just before the summer recess. That was already in line with expectations.
The rules are expected by year-end effect. The committee approved the terrorism bill last week well. Identification may be in the store with a valid ID. Online activation occurs via eID or a financial transaction. Holders of an anonymous SIM card given six months time to register their card. they do not believe in time, the card is blocked.
The government in Belgium argued a year ago for disabling of anonymous purchasing sims. Germany is working with the same law. It still remains possible with anonymous cards to call other countries in Belgium.
The federal parliament will change more laws in the fight against terrorism. So may also be tapped Belgians abroad and allowed extremist groups and “hate preachers” hacked and telephone tapped.
