Million Dutch people delete Facebook app in year time

More than one million Dutch people would have removed the Facebook application from their phone in the past year, according to research. The number of Dutch people who installed the Messenger app has also dropped.

The figures come from Telecompaper, which conducted an investigation into the market penetration of the Facebook applications. A comparison was made between the fourth quarter of last year and the figures for the third quarter of this year. This shows that the number of Dutch people who have Facebook on the smartphone has dropped from 74 percent to 68 percent. Converted to a little more than a million people.

The number of smartphones on which Facebook Messenger is installed also appears to have dropped. It is a decrease from 62 percent to 56 percent of the Dutch, which amounts to approximately 850,000 installations. However, Facebook can note positive numbers for its Instagram application, where the number of Dutch with the app has increased by 4 percent.

Competitor Snapchat also shows growth; the app reports an increase of three percent, although the number of installations among smartphone users under thirty does appear to decrease.
