Find a Question:
Mobistar have to pay less for access to Telenet cable
Telenet, Mobistar competitor must give a substantial discount on the price to be paid by the company to gain access to the cable, as regulator BIPT has determined. With the discount, the prices for internet and digital TV in Belgium fall by increased competition.
Mobistar will receive a discount of 34 percent on the wholesale Telenet calculates to other providers in order to use its cable network. Thus the price falls of 29.90 euros per month to 19.70 euros per month. The price is comparable to the Whop package Telenet, which a bundle of 150GB Internet is included in addition to digital TV and VoIP. Bipt in a later stage , and competitors have gained more market share, the wholesale price increase to 21.70 euros.
The ruling is hoping to meet BIPT complaints from other providers, including Mobistar. They argue that Telenet and Proximus, a subsidiary of Belgacom, in fact, have a duopoly. Late last year Base drew even the plug off its triple play package Snow. This package was offered by Proximus, but was not as Base to get profitable. Base is now in the hands of Telenet, Mobistar, which was an even more difficult position to compete with the ‘big two’.
Telenet reacts opposite Time disappointed by the decision of BIPT. The cable company says that the regulator has not been sufficiently considered in determining the new rates for the investments Telenet has done to facilitate access for third parties. This would amount to 18 million euros.Viewing:-183
