Approximately 9.4 million Dutch are active users of WhatsApp, 18 percent more than a year ago. That research has Telecompaper calculated based on its own research among consumers. The other chat apps have much fewer users.

Thus there seems to be no end to the growth of WhatsApp in the Netherlands. The number of users in the past year increased by nearly 1.5 million. WhatsApp thus strengthens its leading position as the most popular chat app on Dutch smartphones.

The second most popular app for chatting is also Facebook, namely FB Messenger. Its use increased dramatically in mid to last year, after Facebook’s ability to chat took away from the regular app, reports Telecompaper. Microsoft’s Skype has nearly 3 million users, while the number of Dutch Snapchat users in the past year doubled to 1.5 million.

Telecompaper bases his Dutch Apps Market report on data from our own consumer research, with the thousands of Dutch asks what apps they use and how often.
