Mozilla wants to implement successor Gecko engine in Firefox late next year

Mozilla wants Firefox from the end of next year, a new rendering engine. That engine called Mozilla Project Quantum is built for modern hardware with multi-core processors and the modern web, so claims the browser maker.

Quantum will lend various elements of windows , the render engine in Mozilla’s Browser.html. Nevertheless, it still needs many components to a full rendering engine for Firefox, writes a developer Mozilla on Medium. Firefox is now running on Mozilla’s own Gecko engine.

The developer does not mention figures, but says Project Quantum browsing to let feel faster, while scrolling is smoother and pages immediately respond to input. The basis of the new Gecko engine continues, but important elements will replace Mozilla.

The new engine comes in Firefox versions for Windows, Linux, MacOS and Android. The iOS version does not use its own engine by limitations in Apple’s mobile operating system. The first improvements should be visible next year, says Mozilla.

I think it is mainly due to the fact that switching engine from one day to deliver a massive deterioration in the experience. Microsoft also as a blog post posted on their transition from Trident Edge to Edge HTML and HTML was simply Trident without legacy and a different name. MS has worked even months after switching to interoperability fixes to get the browser back arrow and then Edge 12 release. Even though the architecture was the same, it is even not very evident.
