MSI’s gaming laptop with mechanical keyboard gets two GTX 980M’s




MSI has announced the specifications of its GT80 Titan laptop. This laptop features a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches and is optionally supplied with two GTX 980M graphics cards in SLI setup.

MSI announced the GT80 Titan in October to but other than that the laptop has a keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches were available, there were not many details out. At the start of the CES 2015 show in Las Vegas, MSI did know, however, that the GT80 Titan will feature a quad-core Intel Haswell i7-4980HQ generation.

In addition, there are multiple GPU configurations, including one with two GTX 980M graphics cards with even twice 8GB GDDR5. The video cards concern MXM modules and MSI promises that those components are relatively easy to upgrade. Also, the memory and the storage components are easy to approach by removing the plate from the keyboard. The cooling consists of two cooling Boost 3 fans and eight heatpipes.

Despite the amount of graphics processing power, the 18.4 “screen displays a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Many high-endaptops have higher resolution today. According to Anandtech they are clearly pls panel, Samsung’s version of IPS.

Furthermore, MSI provides the laptop 24GB DDR3 memory, built from three 8GB SO-DIMM-strips, with space for an additional memory bar. With regard to storage capacity, there are two mSATA SSDs with a capacity of 128 GB, which are placed in raid0. In total there are four mSATA SSD installed. In addition, a HDD with 7200rpm rotation speed and capacity of 1TB.

The laptop gets according to PC Perspective a starting price of $ 3299 while a more expensive version will be available in the US for 3499 dollars. In Europe, prices will thus likely to exceed the 3300 euro.
