Multiplayer mode by Crysis goes offline on 11 October

From 11 October this year it is no longer possible to play the multiplayer mode of Crysis. The developer will postpone the multiplayer functionality on that date, because there are not enough active players for ‘a good experience’.

The closing of multiplayer is announced in a message on Facebook . Crytek gives little information; for example, it is not clear how many players there are. The developer thanks players and hopes that they will continue to have fun with the single player campaign of the game.

The official Crysis servers were closed in 2014 when Gamespy stopped. Afterwards it was still possible to play the multiplayer mode of Crysis on other servers by means of a patch released by third parties. Manuals for example are on Steam. Whether it will still be possible to play the multiplayer mode after 11 October is not yet clear.

Crysis came out in 2007. At the time it was a graphically very heavy game and Tweakers gave in a review a downside for the ‘bizarrely high’ system requirements. Part of the multiplayer is Power Struggle, a mode in which two teams compete against each other on an asymmetrical terrain, with the aim of destroying each other’s base.
