Find a Question:
NASA is considering ‘message for aliens to send New Horizons
NASA is considering to give New Horizons a message for aliens. That spacecraft has recently begun examining the surroundings of Pluto. One group wants interested if NASA agrees, will compose the message using crowdsourcing.
New Horizons began recently with the investigation into the vicinity of Pluto, one of the dwarf planets outside our Solar System. After a long journey, the spacecraft July 14 must close by Pluto fly. NASA wants in this way to learn more about the distant dwarf planet and have – so far – five moons.
It seems, however, that the mission of New Horizons at Pluto after the investigation is not yet. NASA namely considering to give the spacecraft a message for advanced aliens. That says Space.com based on statements by Jon Lomberg, a science journalist who is currently thinking about the message.
Lomberg leading private Message One Earth project, which is intended to notify advanced forms of life in the intergalactic space of life on earth. The journalist was also previously involved in the gramophone record Golden Record , which were launched in 1977 in the Voyager spacecraft. Currently still flying through space.
In contrast to the gammofoonopname will be the message that may be sent to New Horizons, are provided with digital files. This form of ‘bottle post’ covers not only text, but also images and sounds. Video is not among them, because this form of communication is regarding size too big. The team Lomberg could only 150MB of data for New Horizons agree.
The Golden Record gramophone recording was allowed only a select group of experts cooperate. But the Earth Message One project involves crowdsourcing, which means that in fact everyone worldwide should devise a message and may send. Participants are assisted by 86 consultants consisting of scientists, artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, communicators and teachers.
NASA must first agree to the sending of the message. Lomberg wants the space agency did not ask, but instead requires the global community to contribute financially to the private initiative. He hopes his campaign to raise half a million dollars, converted a sloppy 449,000 euros. That campaign is still 55 days.
Should financing round and NASA agree with the idea, then there is still enough time to put the ‘bottle post’ together. The message can be sent to New Horizons at the earliest in July next year. Appearances can that even in 2019, when the mission is extended.Viewing:-82
