NASA wants to drill a hole in supervolcano in order to save humanity
On our planet there are many volcanoes and during their eruption will suffer those who are in close proximity. But this does not apply to superklyanam. If they start to awaken, not only the districts will suffer, but the whole of our planet. According to scientists, there are about 20 super-volcanoes on Earth that can destroy all life in one moment. One of them is located in Wyoming (USA). And it is precisely him who wants to “calm” NASA … by drilling a hole in it.

About a very interesting idea reports the publication Business Insider, but first, let’s see what is afraid of NASA. The fact is that supervolcano is a volcano, the eruption of which can trigger climate change on the planet, which will lead to the death of most living organisms. According to experts, because of the eruption, a sharp cooling of the lower layers of the atmosphere will occur, which, together with a huge ash cloud, can cause the onset of volcanic winter. At the same time, according to UN estimates, in the event of an unforeseen situation, the food supply for the whole Earth will be enough for humanity for only 74 days. Further consequences are not difficult to imagine.

Located on the territory of Yellowstone, the volcano has a huge “pool” of magma that warms up the local geysers. Some evidence suggests that the volcano is ready for an eruption. Therefore, a project was developed to prevent it. Representatives of the aerospace agency propose to drill holes 10 kilometers deep on the sides of the magma reservoir of the supervolcano. This will slowly reduce the temperature from day to day. Moreover, it is important to drill precisely on the sides, and not in the center, since this will cause a sharp temperature difference and will only accelerate the reaction.

At the same time the waste heat can be used with benefit. For example, to build a geothermal plant that will produce electricity at a very low cost. However, there is also a “fly in the ointment” in this project – its cost. According to initial estimates, the project will cost $ 3.46 billion.

Do you think it is justified to spend such an amount on this project? Write about it in our chat in Telegram.
