Nearly half Flemings who download movies and series does illegal

Almost half of the Flemish people who download movies and series over the internet, does that mostly illegal. This is evident from the annual Digimeter of iMinds, an investigation into the use of digital media and devices in Flanders.

The number of downloaders that uses mainly illegal ways to get into movies and series increases also among the respondents of the iMinds Digimeter 2014 , from about 45 percent to 48 percent. With music that percentage is much lower: about 34 percent download music mostly illegally.

The figures also show that for the first time the number of smartphones among respondents is higher than the number of ‘classic mobiles. About 57 percent of the Flemish respondents now have a smartphone. Android thereby has the greatest market share with 53 percent, followed by 31 percent iOS and Windows Phone by almost 11 percent. BlackBerry is among respondents dropped below 1 percent. Flemings buy relatively few new phones: 64 percent of the aircraft is older than a year.

Nearly as many Flemings seem based on this research have a tablet: 55.8 percent of respondents said they had a tablet, although the actual usage is lower. A small proportion of people have bought a tablet for their children and do not use it. On tablets, the iPad is the market leader with almost half of the tablets in use an iPad. About 38 percent is an Android tablet, while 8.5 percent running Windows. About two thirds of the tablets is older than a year.

Digimeter is the result of an extensive questionnaire research iMinds presented this year to 2000 Flemings. The research group is weighted by age, gender and region. Part of the respondents completed the questionnaire with pen and paper, part online.
