Nearly million Dutch households have fiber optic internet

Nearly one million Dutch households have fiber optic internet, says research firm Telecompaper. The number of households with fiber increased in one year by almost 30 percent. The number of cable connections increased slightly, the number of DSL connections dropped correctly.

There are still far fewer households with fiber than DSL or cable, as is apparent from the figures from Telecompaper. There are 2.98 million households and 3.23 million DSL Internet service via cable. While cable is still on the rise, the proportion of DSL drops. KPN tries to reverse that tide by boosting the maximum speed via DSL. Last year came there to 159,000 households that can take at KPN fiber, while speeds on DSL for almost all households above 100Mbit / s should come later this year.

The biggest players, Ziggo and KPN, growing in terms of market share together. Ziggo is still the largest with a 43.4 percent market share, KPN grew slightly and stood at 40.7 percent. The proportion of providers who do not belong to this big two remains around 16 percent.
