Find a Question:
New drone-transformer can move anywhere
Experts from the Sandia National Laboratory in the U.S. have developed a concept UAV that can fly, swim, dive and move over rough terrain. The project’s author John Salton believes that the new product should significantly enhance the ability of special forces, if not replace it in combat missions.
His invention engineers called Multi-Modal Vehicle (multi-modal transport vehicle). This UAV can fly like most other devices of this kind. It can also swim under water while its wings transformed into stabilizers. To move on land he has a set of drive wheels, which will also drone jump 10 meters in height. The system can be controlled remotely by the operator, is also possible semi-autonomous drone work.
As the site says motorauthority.com, engineers have tested the major components of Multi-Modal Vehicle. To create a prototype need to raise additional funds, as well as a partnership with the defense corporation for production deployment.
“The real benefit of a multimodal device is that it provides maximum flexibility in a very complex missions without concern about whether all the machines involved in the mission to the right place,” – said Jon Salton.
The disadvantage of the current version of the device is that the transformation to the car he takes off part of its construction and the transformation back becomes problematic. But engineers continue to work and maybe in the future we will see a full-fledged robot transformer.
