Soon, Apple can improve the autonomy of its devices, thanks to a new energy-saving screen technology. This is with reference to its own proven sources, the analytical company IHS Markit. According to the report, the development has been going on for a long time – Apple already has three registered patents with a detailed description of the methodology.

Currently, all the known AMOLED-matrices are built on a low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor (LTPS TFT). According to the source, Apple’s plans to make serious changes in the structure of this type of matrix. As an alternative to LTPS, the company intends to use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) in new screens. This will solve several problems:

First of all, it will affect the autonomy. The new display technology will be more economical by 5-15%.
At the factory, such a screen can be subjected to a more accurate calibration.
This type of matrix can potentially support a higher resolution.

As IHS Markit notes, this technology will be much more complicated and more expensive in production. Nevertheless, devices based on LTPO can be expected in a few years. It is expected that a similar screen will first receive Apple Watch , as was the case with OLED-matrices. Then, if no significant design flaws are found, the technology will be implemented in the iPhone.
