New test shows smaller performance differences between i9-9900K and 2700X CPUs

The company Principled Technologies has once again carried out its test of the Intel i9-9900K and the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, after the previous test caused a lot of criticism because of the test method. The differences are generally smaller.

Principled Technologies has recently released the updated results when playing games. The use of a modified test method compared the previous tests. For example, it switched to Creator mode instead of Game mode. Using the latter mode, the Ryzen CPUs only have half of their cores, leading to unequal test results. The Core i9-9900K achieved, for example, a 50 percent higher score than the 2700X in a part of the game Total War: Warhammer II. In the new edition, this difference dropped to just over 17 percent.

Also in many other games a sometimes significantly smaller difference can be seen compared to the initial tests with only the Game mode. In a reaction , Principled Technologies itself comes to the conclusion that the Creator mode on the 2700X leads to the best performance in games. The company apologizes for omitting this mode in its first benchmarks. According to TechPowerUp , the difference between the two processors in the new test is on average 12 percent in favor of the Intel model.

However, the new test method would not have solved all the shortcomings in the original tests, so the memory configuration remained the same. In addition, the 2700X seems to have been tested again with the included Wraith cooler instead of a Noctua model, which was installed with the other cpu’s. Intel has told Tom’s Hardware in a response to ‘being pleased’ that new tests have been carried out.
