Nikon releases Z7 system camera with full

frame sensor at the end of September
Nikon has announced two system cameras with full frame sensors. The Z6 and Z7 are the counterparts of the Nikon D750 and D850 dslrs, but without a mirror and with a new Z-mount. The Z7 is coming out at the end of September, the Z6 will follow at the end of November.

Nikon Z7 The Nikon Z7 has a 45.7-megapixel sensor and a 24.5-megapixel model in the Z6. The lower resolution model has a higher light sensitivity and a higher shooting speed of up to twelve images per second. With the Z7 this is nine photos per second. Both cameras can also film in 4k resolution with 30fps.

Nikon gives its system cameras a relatively large housing, with a hefty handle. That is why there is room for large batteries, in the cameras there are the same models as in the dslr’s of the brand. Because there is no mirror, the optical viewfinder is missing. The devices have an electronic vacuum cleaner with 3.7 million pixels and a 3.2 “screen at the back that folds up.The housing weighs 675 grams.

The cameras use phase detection focal points on the sensor, the Z7 has 493 and with the Z6 there are 273. The sensor is equipped with an image stabilization mechanism. That, according to Nikon, yields five stops.

Nikon sees the Z6 as an alternative to the D750 dslr and the Z7 is a variant on the D850. The system cameras have the same sensors as the dslrs, but a smaller housing. Another important change is the new Z-mount, which allows lenses with a higher light intensity because of the larger size. Nikon is working on a f / 0.95 lens for the system.

Because the cameras have a new Z-mount, new lenses have to be developed. Initially there will be a 24-70 mm f / 4, which can be collapsed when not in use. Nikon also makes a 50mm and 35mm with a diaphragm of f / 1.8. In addition, there is an F-mount adapter, with which older lenses can be used while maintaining autofocus.

At the end of September, Nikon releases the Z7, the camera receives a suggested retail price of 3699 euros. From the end of November, the Z6 is also for sale and receives a suggested retail price of 2299 euros. The 24-70 mm f / 4 lens costs 1099 euros and a kit consisting of the Z7 and the zoom gets a price of 4299 euros.

Tweakers was given the opportunity to take a first look at the unveiling of the cameras and published a preview about it .
