Nintendo has managed to sell sixty million units of the Nintendo 3DS. That performance was achieved about five years after the introduction of the handheld console. Moreover, the number of sixty million or considerably less than other gaming handhelds from Nintendo.

The Japanese company has brought out the sales themselves, a statement that was sent to several gaming news sites, including Eurogamer . At the end of the previous quarter, the sales 3DS consoles was still at 58.5 million units, giving it appears that the sales decline. Probably also to do with the age of the device: Nintendo released the 3DS just over five years ago in the market.

With sales of some sixty million units, the 3DS does less well than other devices from Nintendo. For example, the DS has sold more than twice as much, and also did the GameBoy Color is better. However, the 3DS is still supported with new games; so should Pokemon Sun and Moon come out in November.

Nintendo seems to work on a successor to the handheld in the DS series. According to rumors, the device is being developed under the codename MH. Incidentally, the Japanese company showed itself already know that a new gaming console is being developed under the code name NX, intended for release in March next year. Many details are still missing, but it is possible that Nintendo at the upcoming E3 trade show reveal more information.
