Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is deceased




The Director of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, is deceased at the age of 55 from the effects of cancer. That makes the company itself known. The CEO led the company since 2002 and was responsible for the release of the DS and the Wii.

Iwata Saturday deceased. He was suffering from a tumor in his bile duct, says Nintendo. In 2014, the CEO was not at the E3 game exhibition present because of surgery on his bile ducts. Iwata was since 2002 President and CEO of Nintendo and since 2013 he was also the director of Nintendo America.

He was the fourth director in the history of Nintendo and the first that did not come from the Yamauchi family. Iwata had a background as a programmer of video games in the eighties and was involved in almost every major Nintendo titles. He was working at Hal Laboratory, a developer with close ties to Nintendo. In 1993 he became director of that company, right after the first Kirby game, Kirby’s Dream Land, was published.

In 2000 he moved to Nintendo. Under his leadership brought the Japanese game company many great achievements in the field of hardware and software, such as the Wii, DS, Super Smash Bros. and the Pokémon series. Also saw Iwata put compelled strategy shifts Nintento triggered by the changing gaming landscape and the disappointing sales of the Wii U. Iwata was praised for his wit, his accessibility and leadership skills. He himself repeatedly said his background as a programmer helped drive the development departments.
