Nokia says to phase out development Here Maps for Windows Phone




A top executive of Nokia said in an interview that the Finnish company is developing its mapping service Here Maps for Windows Phone to finishing, in favor of the development for iOS and Android.

CEO Sean Fernback says against the Dutch founded website The Next Web that it argues with Microsoft on how to proceed with the development of Here Maps for Windows Phone after the acquisition of the telefoontak of Nokia by Microsoft. “As a result of this acquisition, we have to develop for Windows Phone to proceed more slowly.”

The Next Web adds, apparently based on information from Fernback that Nokia more money and people free to develop for iOS and Android and Windows Phone for less. Someone who claims to be Nokia’s Here-branch employee said in response to that WPCentral Here Maps in any case, Windows Phone continues until the license expires in almost ten years. However, he confirmed that Nokia Microsoft discussing what form it should. Presumably he means that in addition to Here Maps now also Bing Maps on Windows Phones stand.

The interview has created quite a stir at Microsoft insiders. Tom Warren from The Verge tweets without argument or explanation that the articles are not correct, while Winsupersite takes it out of context is achieved.
