NS wants to link voyage customers for additional services




The NS wants to offer a service in which it recognizes and connects the travel data of customers. In this way, the carrier may for example inform customers that they have forgotten to check out whether that work on their project.

NS train It is a service for which users must register themselves, emphasizes spokesman Erik Kroeze of the Dutch Railways. The service, named NS Extra, unplug the travel data of customers to a person. “Normally, we do know what is being traveled, but we do not associate with those who do that,” said spokesman Kroeze. “According to privacy legislation that should not.” The department wants to train additional customers ‘something extra’ offer, set Kroeze.

If customers are going to agree to link their travel behavior to their identity, they have for example an e-mail if they forget to check out, then they can correct it. NS also wants customers who travel a certain mileage, reward. “You can for instance think of temporarily free travel in first class,” said Kroeze, who stressed that this concerns an example. “We go around with it.”

In the future, the NS customers a custom advice. “If you do every day on the route Alkmaar-Den Helder travel, we want to warn you if there are operations on that route,” explains Kroeze. “In the aviation world, which is quite normal.”

The NS will test the new service by 10,000 volunteers who will approach the train carrier itself its customer base. Also, interested parties can log on. Extra service only works on sections of the railway, not from other carriers. “We’re gradually rolling out,” said Kroeze.

Extra service continues to opt-in, promising NS. “I can imagine that people are not waiting for. So they do not make use of,” said Kroeze. The associated travel data be used only according to the spokesman for the extra service; he says that the data will not be used for other purposes.

Last year came ING discredited when the bank said it would use data from customers to offer them tailored ads. Of this, the Service no question, says Kroeze.
