“NSA and GCHQ to work on real-time Google Earth for internet observation ‘




American intelligence NSA and GCHQ British service have access to the networks of Deutsche Telekom and Nets Cologne, Der Spiegel after claiming access to secret documents. Services would establish a kind of Google Earth for Internet observation.

The document that Der Spiegel has recognized shows a map with the name ‘Treasure Map’. On the map are the names of Deutsche Telekom and NetCologne and their networks highlighted in red, where the legend says that it exist within the networks’ access points’ for ‘technical observation.

The project for Treasure Map would have the objective to bring the whole Internet in map and “connected any Internet enabled device in real time, anywhere” make visible. Der Spiegel speaks of a kind of Google Earth for the Internet, the NSA and GCHQ would use for planning cyber attacks and espionage. Not only routers could be visualized but also computers, smartphones and tablets that are connected to the Internet.

The German teleport providers Stellar, Cetel and IABG are marked red on the Treasure Map. These companies offer Internet and other communications services via satellites to include areas where no further internet. The map comes from the large amount of documents whistleblower Snowden has revealed.
