NSA continues to collect it for US call records

Congress has limited the ability of the US National Security Agency ( NSA) to collect wholesale telephone records, but it has managed to collect more than 151 million records of US telephone calls over the past year, according to an annual report released Tuesday by the US Bureau of Intelligence.

The report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coates, was the first measure of the effects of the United States Freedom Act of 2015, which reduced the ability of the National Security Agency to collect telephone records and contacts for the US people and allied intelligence agencies suspected of having links With terrorism.

The report shows that the National Security Agency (NSA) collects about 151 million registrations, although it has been authorized by the Secret Intelligence Surveillance Court to spy on 42 terrorist suspects in 2016, as well as a group identified the previous year.

The National Security Agency has collected a huge amount of metadata, callers’ numbers, recipients, calls, and call times, not content since the September 11 attacks. The report came as Congress faced a re-delegation of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act All information about non-Americans outside the United States.

The new report came amid allegations recently made by President Donald Trump about former President Barack Obama’s order to monitor his contacts and that former national security adviser Susan Rice asked the National Security Agency to disclose the names of the Americans who were caught in the surveillance.

Information indicates that the 151 million registrations collected last year are small compared to the number collected under procedures that were discontinued after the disclosure by the former NSA contractor, Edward Snowden, of the surveillance program in 2013.

According to the US intelligence official in the report, the number of US names was lower in the wiretapping reports in 2016 compared to last year, with 1934 names revealed in 2016 compared to 2232 names in 2015.
