NSA may gather temporarily phone data of Americans

The US Senate has parts of the Patriot Act last night extended. One of the consequences is that the secret service NSA temporarily does not have permission to gather with a sleepnet’ method widely metadata Americans.

Telecom Data from non-Americans can continue to gather intelligence. Legislation which US authorities authorized the bugging of Americans gives under fire since whistleblower Edward Snowden gave insight into the extent of the spying by the NSA.

The US House of Representatives approved three parts of the Patriot Act under the name USA Freedom Act recently good, but the debate in the Senate came to an impasse justified. The deadline of June 1, the Senate did not reach despite a hastily welded accelerated ballot. Over several days following a new treatment.

It is an extension to 2019. One of the three parts of the proposal contains according to Ars Technica the condition that the Intelligence Surveillance Act Court in the future must judge or searches in the data collection of US telecoms data relevant to combating terrorism. In addition, the bulk data from the drop in telecom companies would be saved.

Another part that is not renewed concerns ‘hop’ of taper changes as a suspicious device and the last part adopted is not about being able to pull of so-called “lone wolf” who have no links to terrorist activities.
