Number of electric vehicles in the Netherlands increased by 50 percent




The number of electric vehicles in 2014 increased by 50 percent in the Netherlands. The number of fully electric cars increased by 64 percent, the number of hybrid models by 50 percent. Especially the Tesla Model S proved popular with the fully electric cars.

In total there were registered at the end of 2014 46.111 electric vehicles. Nearly 37,000 of these were hybrid models, but the number of fully electric cars also increases. End of 2014 drove them there around 6825, while a year earlier were still 4161.

On December 31, 2014, there were 2645 Tesla Model S cars registered in the Netherlands and therefore this is the most popular all-electric model. The number two, the Nissan Leaf, there were 1129 registered. Of hybrid cars Mitsubishi Outlander was the most popular, with 15,725 registrations. The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid follows with 9707 registrations. BMW CEO gave to Automotive News to expect that sales of electric cars will be lower in the coming period, due to the low oil prices.

The figures are published by the RFO. The National Office for Entrepreneurial Netherlands also publishes an update on the number of charging stations: there are now more than 12,000. Especially the limited number of publicly accessible charging stations increased.
