NVIDIA Announces Quadro M5500 GPU with 2048 cudacores for mobile workstations on
Nvidia has its most powerful graphics card announced for mobile workstations at its own GPU Technology Conference. The Quadro M5500 is based on the Maxwell architecture and it is the professional version of the GTX 980 for laptops.
The Nvidia Quadro MXM M5500 is one that can be built by laptop manufacturers in mobile workstations. Like the GTX 980 Nvidia module available in September last year made for gaming laptops, the Quadro M5500 has a full GM204 GPU which all 2048 stream processors are active.
The clock rate of the chip is dependent on the choice of the laptop manufacturer. According to AnandTech the boost clock would be about 1140MHz. There’s 8GB of GDDR5 memory available that works at 6,6GHz and communicates over a 256bit wide bus, for a bandwidth of 211GB / s. The TDP is 150 watts.
Nvidia says the chip is suitable for the development of virtual reality games and applications. The current Quadro M5000M is not powerful enough to meet the system requirements such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
