The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 performs in games at high resolutions about 30 percent better than the GTX 980 Ti at stock speeds. This is evident from benchmarks and reviews, among other Anandtech, ArsTechnica and Hardware.Info. The card will retail for 789 euros.

AnandTech concludes in his publication that the GTX 1080 at 4k resolutions in games about 31 percent faster than the GTX 980 Ti and 32 percent faster than the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X. The difference between the GTX 980 is 70 percent in the advantage of the new card. The performance index of TechPowerUp shows a similar profit. ArsTechnica speaks of a profit of 20 to 35 percent compared to the 980 Ti and Titan X.

The Nvidia GTX 1080 is by far the fastest single GPU so far, but still not fast enough to run the latest games in 4k resolution with 60fps on the highest settings. In many games, however, the framerate does close and the graphics settings to turn something down will 60fps at many games in uhd resolution are possible.

Incidentally, it should be noted that in all the reviews up to now the 1080 GTX GTX 980 is compared with the Ti on stock speed. Many of the GTX 980 Ti cards on the market have a significantly higher clocked GPU. Compared to such cards is the performance gain of the Founders Edition 1080 GTX therefore lower.

Nvidia promised at the presentation that the GTX 1080 at Fri applications would be as fast as two GTX 980 cards. The review of Hardware.Info shows that put the map in 3D Mark knows down a score close comes from the score of a GTX 980 SLI setup. The various published reviews do not address the performance improvements in VR applications. To find fault with here have applications using the simultaneous multi-projection technique which Nvidia has come up before, and at this time are such games there yet.

1080 GTX OC performance TechPowerUp knew with overclocking to achieve a practical gain of 12.8 percent. The GPU was clocked at 2114MHz and the memory from 1250 to 1450MHz. Hardware.Info took the speed of 2,1GHz, but calls it above the system often crashes. Practice profits stood at 13.3 percent in 3DMark. ArsTechnica also experienced problems with overclocking software, but blames it on the prerelease status. Ars has a GPU speed of about 2GHz.

All published reviews are based on a “Founders Edition” GTX 1080. This is Nvidia’s new name for video cards with the reference design. Almost all manufacturers have already announced such an implementation of the 1080 GTX. Variants with custom PCB, custom cooler and often higher clock speeds will be announced later.

The GTX 1080 Founders Edition is available from May 27 and get into Europe a suggested retail price of 789 euros. Later, manufacturers will come with custom designs, which should also be cheaper. When they appear is not yet known.

Nvidia has announced no new information yet about the GeForce GTX 1070. These cheaper video card was mentioned briefly in the introduction. The 1070 has a GP104-GPU Pascal generation, but gets regular GDDR5 memory. The power is 6.5 TFLOPS, while the GTX 1080 is higher by 9 TFLOPS. As of June 10 will be a “Founders Edition” GTX 1070 are available for $ 449. Variants with customized PCB will start at $ 379. Converted including VAT involves approximately 477 and 402 euros.
