One of the more exciting developments, however, was only very vaguely shown.

Also the ecosystem for Gear VR, Samsung’s VR headset for smartphones is being expanded. Over 400 applications already exist. The matching SDK is now getting additional features to push the Mobile VR category further, making it even easier for developers to bring their applications to the Gear VR headset. Also, all applications can be transferred directly as Facebook Livestream. This does not have to be implemented in the apps, but rather via the system.

Oculus Avatars is also an innovation that is available soon. You can create your own figure, which represents one. Available is the story for Oculus Rift along with the touch release, the mobile variant will follow in 2017.

Oculus Parties and Oculus Rooms are two new features, which will first come on Gear VR and will be available on Oculus Rift. Oculus Parties allows “calls” with up to eight people and can be started from anywhere. Oculus Rooms is already a bit further, you can “meet” with others and then start an app at the same time to explore them together. Or you can watch a movie together. This is a technique which should achieve similar results with half the Framerate as native 90 Hz rendering. This of course affects the minimum requirements on the CPU and GPU, VR via Rift is to be made accessible to an even wider mass.

By these new minimum requirements, Oculus can also offer an AMD-PC, which is sold for 499 dollars. In addition, there are more “Oculus ready” -PCs, which offer the recommended specifications (differ from the minimum requirements). Including laptops from ASUS, Gigabyte and Lenovo.

In addition, Oculus has announced new software, such as SingSpace, a karaoke program released in the spring of 2017. In addition, the company is investing heavily in VR, across the areas of entertainment and education. For example, you are cooperating with the Walt Disney Studios or putting a few million dollars into a diversity program. In 2017 there should be some exciting developments and news. If synonymous still Google’s Daydream VR platform ride up, this will probably all a tick faster.
