OM Belgium investigates refusal of EA with loot boxes in FIFA stop

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office investigates the continued use of loot boxes by EA. The investigation follows the Belgian Gaming Commission’s requirement to stop loot boxes in games

An investigation is currently underway into the use of loot boxes by EA in its games FIFA 18 and FIFA 19. The public prosecutor’s office of Brussels says this according to VRT . The Belgian Gaming Commission noted at the beginning of this year after research that publishers with loot boxes in games are breaking the law and possibly face millions of penalties.

Blizzard therefore stopped with the boxes in Overwatch and Valve also took measures in CS: GO . However, EA indicated to continue with the lucrative ultimate team mode in FIFA, because the company’s operation can not be compared to gambling. The Belgian public prosecutor’s office now focuses, among other things, on the refusal of EA to comply with the request of the Gaming Commission to stop loot boxes.
